Diagnostic Care

South Putnam Animal Hospital is fully equipped with advanced medical technology to aid our doctors in the diagnosis of pets. Our medical team is highly trained to accurately and efficiently diagnose a wide-range of conditions. This allows treatment to begin as quickly as possible so pets can regain comfort and health.

On-Site Laboratory

At South Putnam Animal Hospital, we provide clients with convenient, accurate, and rapid test results thanks to our on-site diagnostic laboratory. Blood work, urine samples, fecal analysis, and skin scrapings provide invaluable information about overall pet health. If your pet is anxious at the vet, our team is trained to use a gentle approach to carefully take blood and samples for lab testing.

For advanced testing, we work with an area specialty laboratory and offer daily courier service.

You can expect laboratory testing if your pet is:

  • Preparing for a procedure that requires anesthesia
  • Showing signs of illness
  • Examined after trauma, such as a car accident or fall
  • Demonstrating a drastic change in behavior, weight, or overall condition
  • Receiving a senior exam
  • Having advanced imaging

Ultrasound

Ultrasound services are performed in-house. Veterinary ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging procedure that allows us to see an in-depth view of your pet's organs. Oftentimes, radiographs, which reveal the size, dimensions, and position of the organs, are used in combination with ultrasound. However, the ultrasound can see inside the organs in great detail. An x-ray can only view a rough silhouette.

Digital Radiology

As we continually strive to offer the highest quality medicine and diagnostic testing, we are pleased to offer digital radiology services as a means of providing excellent care to our patients. Radiography is painless, safe, and completely non-invasive, and it uses only very low doses of radiation. Radiographs are an important tool that can help us make a correct diagnosis for your pet.

A radiograph, also known as an x-ray, is a type of photograph that can look inside the body and reveal information that may not be discernable from the outside. Radiography can be used to evaluate almost any organ in the body, including the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs, as well as the bones. Radiography is painless, safe, and completely non-invasive, and it uses only very low doses of radiation. Radiographs are an important tool that can help us make a correct diagnosis for your pet.

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

EKG technology is a valuable diagnostic resource that measures heart health. This is a non-invasive process that involves gently placing electrodes on various areas of your pet's body to measure heart rhythms and electric impulses. Oftentimes, EKG diagnostics are used in combination with ultrasound.

Your pet may be experiencing a heart condition if you observe signs such as coughing, labored breathing, lethargy, and weakness. Call us right away if you notice these symptoms.
